Howie Carr: It’s not easy being a bagman, just ask Hunter Biden

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 17:08:17 GMT

It’s not easy being a bagman — just ask R. Hunter Biden. On the plus side, it beats working.Collecting cash for his corrupt father allows Hunter to devote more time to the things that he believes make life worth living — smoking crack cocaine, getting drunk, knocking up strippers, procuring high-end hookers, committing perjury on federal firearms forms, etc.The downside? You have to turn over between 10 and 50 percent of your ill-gotten gains to the Big Guy.Until Hunter’s laptop became a national scandal (except in state-run Democrat media, which continue to totally ignore it) a lot of people were unfamiliar with the word “bagman.”The Oxford dictionary definition is, “An agent who collects or distributes the proceeds of illicit activities.”But there’s a different definition that probably fits Hunter better: someone “who runs errands for other criminals.”In this case, the other criminal is the president of the United States.Legally, the bagman operates in a nether world. His m.o. is u...

Nantucket’s topless bylaw working swimmingly, police report

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 17:08:17 GMT

Nantucket has the skinny on the island going topless this summer.“We haven’t received a single call complaining about it,” Nantucket Police Department spokesman Lt. Angus MacVicar told the Herald.“I’m not saying people haven’t gone topless,” he quickly added, but no one has dialed 911 to call out any untoward exposure. The police logs have been peppered with deer strikes, animal bites, parking infractions, and noise complaints — it’s a vacation hotspot, so you’d expect a few of those.Other blotter items include intoxicated bar crawlers, disorderly patrons, marine violations, and plenty of action along the wharf. Sewer overflows have plagued the island, like the rest of the region, from all the rain. But no complaints about women going bare-chested to avoid tan lines.“We would get calls if it was inappropriate,” the lieutenant added, saying if kids were around a parent would probably call. So far, they haven’t.Nan...

10 people died at the Astroworld music festival two years ago. What happens now?

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 17:08:17 GMT

Nearly two years after 10 people were crushed to death during the deadly 2021 Astroworld festival, no charges have been filed — even though some people, including event workers, expressed safety concerns.Pinpointing “who exactly caused those deaths is not an easy question to answer,” said Sandra Guerra Thompson, a criminal law professor at the University of Houston Law Center.“It’s a very difficult thing to say, unless you have some kind of clear evidence that somebody in charge, whose job it was to ensure safety and who should have known better, failed to take action,” she said.A nearly 1,300-page report on the investigation into the tragedy released by Houston police Friday said contract worker Reece Wheeler told authorities that he saw a crush of people and warned an event organizer that people could die, shortly before rapper Travis Scott went onstage. In the report, investigators wrote that Scott said he did see one person near the stage getting medical attention, but said that ...

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Senegal’s opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been charged with conspiracy against the state and calls for insurrections among other offenses, the public prosecutor said Saturday. The announcement comes weeks after Sonko was convicted on separate charges of corrupting youth and sentenced to two years in prison, which ignited deadly protests across the nation.Prosecutor Abdou Karim Diop made the announcement on state television, a day after Sonko’s lawyer said he was taken into custody for questioning at the police courthouse in the capital, Dakar. In June, Sonko was acquitted on charges of raping a woman who worked at a massage parlor and making death threats against her. But he was convicted on a lighter sentence of corrupting young people, which includes using one’s position of power to have sex with people under age 21. Ukraine moves official Christmas Day holiday to Dec. 25, denouncing Russian-imposed traditions

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday signed a law moving the official Christmas Day holiday to Dec. 25 from Jan. 7, the day when the Russian Orthodox Church observes it. The explanatory note attached to the law said its goal is to “abandon the Russian heritage,” including that of “imposing the celebration of Christmas” on Jan. 7, and cited Ukrainians’ “relentless, successful struggle for their identity” and “the desire of all Ukrainians to live their lives with their own traditions, holidays,” fueled by Russia’s 17-month-old aggression against the country. Last year, some Ukrainians already observed Christmas on Dec. 25, in a gesture that represented separation from Russia, its culture and religious traditions. The law also moves the Day of Ukrainian Statehood to July 15 from July 28, and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine to Oct. 1 from Oct. 14. The Russian Orthodox Church, which claims sovereignty over Orthodoxy in Ukraine, and some...
