If he was a buyer, he’d rob them of their items.”Altieri said the first robbery occurred in Northeast D.C. back in early November. Then, another happened close by, just a week later.“Once we got two — once it was in the same block, and it was Facebook Marketplace both times — we realized it was probably going to be a pattern,” Altieri told WTOP.Two more robberies and a partial photo snapped by a victim led police to execute a search warrant and take Porter in.“We were able to uncover evidence from the last robbery,” Altieri said. ...

What is carbon capture and why does it keep coming up at COP28?

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 19:33:38 GMT

The future of fossil fuels is at the center of the United Nations climate summit in Dubai, where many activists, experts and nations are calling for an agreement to phase out the oil, gas and coal responsible for warming the planet. On the other side: energy companies and oil-rich nations with plans to keep drilling well into the future. In the background of those discussions are carbon capture and carbon removal, technologies most, if not all, producers are counting on to meet their pledges to get to net-zero emissions. Skeptics worry the technology is being oversold to allow the industry to maintain the status quo.“The industry needs to commit to genuinely helping the world meet its energy needs and climate goals – which means letting go of the illusion that implausibly large amounts of carbon capture are the solution,” International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol said before the start of talks.WHAT EXACTLY IS CARBON CAPTURE?Lots of industrial facilities like coal-fir...

Wild lose second straight game, and maybe a top defenseman

EDMONTON, Alberta — The Wild were weathering their first rough spot under new head coach John Hynes, tied with the red-hot Oilers, 3-3, in the third period after a listless first period that ended with a one-goal deficit. But the Wild rallied quickly with a three-goal second period, a good sign after Thursday night’s 2-0 loss at Vancouver, the team’s first shutout loss of the season, and first loss in five games under Hynes.Especially after arriving here in the wee hours of the morning.“I didn’t have any problem with the effort,” Hynes said after a 4-3 loss at Edmonton’s Rogers Place. “I thought we were up against it coming into the game, and that’s what the schedule is. But I really liked the compete and the battle that we had.”The game turned on a dime early in the third period when Edmonton’s Evander Kane used his shoulder to slam Minnesota defenseman Jonas Brodin into the end boards, a reckless hit that could easily have put the Wild on a power play in a tie game.Inst...

The image features Bryant in his Los Angeles Lakers jersey holding a basketball.Using a lawn mower, the grass image was printed at a park in Pleasanton using AirPrint technology from the couple’s company, New Ground Technology, which gently bends the grass towards or away from the viewer to make the dark and light contrast to create the grass imagery. According to USA Today, Kelli Pearson created the design by using several pictures of Bryant, and her husband, Pete Davis, loaded the image into a specialized lawn mower as he brought it to life.CA couple prints Kobe Bryant grass mural using only air (New Ground Technology)The couple posted a video of the image creation process on their company’s YouTube channel on Wednesday. "This tragedy came a...
