STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Paige Bueckers tries to put the fear out of her mind. But it’s there when the 2021 AP national player of the year makes a cut or comes down hard on her surgically repaired left leg. Bueckers is back on the court with her teammates — though not fully participating in practice games yet — 10 months after suffering the second major knee injury of her college career. And she occasionally wonders, could it happen again?“I believe that everything happens for a reason,” Bueckers said Wednesday following a team workout. “Anybody can be scared of getting injured. You don’t have to have a prior injury to do that. I think the fear is always there, but I try not to let it consume me and just go out there and have fun.”Well, have fun and get in shape to lead UConn on a run at a 12th national title and its first since 2016, she said. Bueckers was all-everything as a freshman, averaging 20 points, 5.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds a game. But in December of her soph...

The Marlins swung at 48 percent of Kirby’s pitches off the plate, and 58 percent of his fastballs out of the zone.“I was able to expand the slider a little bit today,” Kirby said. “But yeah, if I’m living in the zone, they’ve got to protect anything on the outer half. Mets Notebook: Daniel Vogelbach remains out of lineup

Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 02:57:05 GMT

The Mets have backed themselves into a corner with Daniel Vogelbach. The team hasn’t used Vogelbach for the last week, having benched the designated hitter for the last five games. The situation with Vogelbach is particularly strange. The Mets are choosing to play a man down each night without their left-handed hitting designated hitter despite opportunities to use him, especially in late-game situations. It’s strange to carry a player without using him at all, but Vogelbach isn’t injured and the team didn’t want to find an injury for him, so he continues to work on finding his stride again with the team.“I’ve been working on stuff that can hopefully lead to me getting the ball in the air like I like to get the ball in the air,” Vogelbach said Wednesday before the Mets hosted the Yankees in the second Subway Series game of the year. “Just being able to get in the cage and really dial into stuff that I can really go after and not have to ...
