German Chocolate Cake. Bundt Cake. Apple Cobbler. Teacakes. At her stall at the 36th annual Berkeley Juneteenth Festival on Sunday, Lee Nora Glover-Holloway, or Nunu for short, was selling Southern-style “desserts with soul.”“It’s all part of my ancestors’ legacy,” she said. “My ancestors suffered, were enslaved, brought to a country they did not choose to come to. They endured and survived so I could live. Even to this moment, my people are free-ish, not free. And Juneteenth is a free-ish event for my people. It’s wonderful to see my people in the spirit of Juneteenth here.”In celebration of Juneteenth, three blocks of Adeline Street in Berkeley were filled with the aroma of popcorn and barbecue, the sound of live jazz and R&B and the sight of vibrant clothes and jewelry on Sunday. The festival marked the culmination of a week of events in the city to “remember the hope and the promise of emancipation.”Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery after the Civil War in the United...Red-hot SF Giants complete convincing sweep of Dodgers, first in LA in more than a decade

LOS ANGELES — The big, scary Dodgers don’t seem so menacing now, do they? With a 7-3 win Sunday afternoon, the Giants completed a three-game sweep here at Dodger Stadium for the first time in more than a decade and only the sixth time since the teams moved west in 1958. Outscoring their archrivals 29-8 over the course of the weekend, their most runs ever in a three-game series here, it couldn’t have come in much more convincing fashion. In three games, the Giants seemed to vanquish any leftover demons from a season ago, when they went 1-8 here and lost 14 times to the Dodgers.Logan Webb earned the win Sunday, overcoming an outing in which he didn’t have his best stuff or command to limit Los Angeles to two runs over seven innings, but it required the work of Camilo Doval, who entered with one out in the ninth after Scott Alexander loaded the bases. It had been more than a decade since the Giants’ last swept a series of at least three games at Dodger Stadium. KANSAS CITY, Mo (AP) — Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout hit back-to-back home runs to help the Los Angeles Angels defeat the Kansas City Royals 5-2 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series. It’s the sixth time this season, and 28th overall, that Ohtani and Trout have homered in the same game. The Angels are 6-0 this season and 20-8 overall when both players go deep.“When I write Mike Trout in the lineup I feel pretty good about it, as any other manager in the league would,” Los Angeles manager Phil Nevin said. “You can’t win games with just two guys, but if there are any guys back-to-back you can do it, it’s those two. They can carry a team for quite a while.”Royals manager Matt Quatraro agreed.“They’ve certainly done that to a lot of pitchers over the years,” he said of LA’s dynamic duo.Ohtani saw the end of a six-game streak in which he recorded an extra-base hit, a walk and a run. The only other players in MLB history to accomplish that were Babe Ru...Braves cut Charlie Culberson before infielder’s father was to throw 1st pitch

DENVER (KDVR) -- Lawns all across Colorado looked extra green this spring after continuous moisture across parts of the state and up in the high country where some peaks were still seeing snow. “It's been an unusual spring here with the amount of consecutive days of rain and the cloudiness,” Tony Koski, professor in the horticulture and landscape architecture department at Colorado State University, said. Koski said Sunday that grass is loving all the rain but the problem is it is growing too fast and people are having a hard time keeping up. “Maybe some of the kids are saying they want to mow the lawn for dad this Father's Day," Koski said. He said our state is seeing weather similar to the northwest, which means vegetation that wouldn't usually have a chance of thriving in Colorado, now is. “Because we don’t see as much rain as other parts of the country we don’t see mushrooms as often," Koski said. After having quite a few days of cooler, unsettled weather, a pattern change is developing and looks to bring some summer weather to New England. The jet stream is forecast to shift from our south and move north into southern Canada. This will move the cooler, unsettled weather to our north and allow a summerlike weather pattern to return. Although the week will start cooler and unsettled with highs in the 70s and a few showers and storms, late week things clear out and temperatures warm up significantly. By the end of the week, temperatures will approach 90 degrees to kick of the first few official days of summer! So if you’re looking for some beach weather, we’ll have some arriving to New England soon.Latest news
