ST. LOUIS - A candidate for the top election official position in Missouri wants to mandate hand-counted ballots.FOX 2's partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that State Senator Denny Hoskins of Warrensburg filed a bill for the 2024 legislative session to do so.A 2022 law made paper ballots the official ballots of the state but still allowed them to be fed into a machine to be counted. The Hoskins proposal would repeal that law, which could result in an election taking weeks or months to determine. Man makes dash for it as city tries towing car with expired tags He says, "As long as we have the manpower to do it, there will not be issues."Hoskins is one of six GOP candidates running for Missouri Secretary of State. One of his competitors, State Representative Adam Schwadron of St. Charles, says there are concerns about election security, but hand-counting ballots would be problematic in larger countiesPolice investigating two deadly East St. Louis shootings

Denver Post sports writer Patrick Saunders with the latest installment of his Rockies Mailbag.Pose a Rockies- or MLB-related question for the Rockies Mailbag. Are the Rockies looking to sell off some outfield/corner infield prospects for MLB-ready pitching?— Andrew, Fort LuptonAndrew, greetings from the MLB winter meetings from the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville. If you’ve never been here, it’s a pretty amazing place: an indoor tourist city under a steel-and-glass roof with a fake river and Christmas lights. Think of the movie “The Truman Show.”But I digress.General manager Bill Schmidt told me Monday that he’s open to trading both established players and prospects in exchange for pitching. Whether that happens or not remains a huge question mark. As far as corner players go, the club could dangle outfielders Sean Bouchard and Hunter Goodman, and perhaps DH/first baseman Elehuris Montero. The problem is, to get an MLB-ready pitch...Hit-and-run driver sought after leaving pedestrian to die in Carson

(NewsNation) — The parents of a 9-year-old Kansas City Chiefs fan threatened to sue the sports website Deadspin following the publication of an article that accused their son of racial insensitivity. The article alleged that their son, Holden Armenta, exhibited racist behavior by painting his face black and red and wearing a Native American headdress to a football game.In a letter obtained by NewsNation, Holden's parents, Shannon and Raul Armenta, hired Clare Locke LLP to demand a retraction and threaten further action against the author Carron J. It is not enough to quietly remove a tweet from X or disable the article from Deadspin’s website. Since its release, “Monster Hunter Now” has become one of my go-to mobile games along with “Marvel Snap” and “Pokemon Go.” The title nails the action-oriented nature of the gameplay while compressing it into battles that last less than three minutes. It’s the first Niantic titles other than “Pokemon Go” that has the stickiness that’s needed for a mobile game to survive long term. Now, the title enters its latest phase with a new season called Fulminations in the Frost. As part of the new content drop, Niantic is release four new monsters to the mix: Zinogre, Banbaro, Barioth and Radobaan. To help players out, Niantic is also adding two new weapons: the Lance and the Dual Blades. The former has the extended reach for creatures that seem to be just out of rush after attacking while the Dual Blades focuses on close-in encounters. Along with the new monsters, players should expect new armor sets and weapons. In addition to the n...Goldberg: Backlash to anti-Israel protests threatens free speech

If you want to understand the wrenching generational rift over Israel among many left-leaning American Jews, the documentary “Israelism,” which came out this year, is a good place to start.Much of it centers on the political evolution of Simone Zimmerman, who was raised to be a staunch Zionist, began questioning her beliefs even as she defended Israel at the UC Berkeley, and was transformed by her encounter with the harrowing reality of the Palestinian occupation. Zimmerman went on to co-found IfNotNow, an anti-occupation Jewish group that has been at the forefront of many protests against Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip. The filmmakers, Erin Axelman and Sam Eilertsen, are part of the same generation as Zimmerman, and Axelman told me, “We’re telling Simone’s story as a way of partly telling our story.”But in November, when progressive Jewish students at the University of Pennsylvania tried to screen the film, the university denied them permission, reportedly citing fear of a “potenti...Cottle: Stop whining, Mr. Santos. You got a fair shake.

Before we wallow in the downfall of George Santos, allow me a toast of appreciation to the freshly defrocked lawmaker and his fellow lawmakers. It takes a lot to get booted from the House by one’s colleagues, but the New York Republican really applied himself. And while his 11 very weird months in office were a stain on American democracy, here’s hoping his departure serves to reassure a politically disillusioned nation that there is a level of deception, corruption and lunacy too extra even for Congress. It is a nice reminder that, on special occasions, most lawmakers still know how to do the right thing. Now to the wallowing! It was frustrating for many Americans, including some prominent Republicans, that it took so long to rid the House of this egregious fraudster, fabulist and — if that sizzling report from the House Ethics Committee is any indication — future felon. The Ethics Committee opened its investigation in March. In May, the congressman was indicted on 13 fe...California man among 8 who died in U.S. Air Force Osprey crash near Japan
