ST. LOUIS - Thursday was fun, but Friday, Mother Nature means business.  We’re already tracking rain and non-severe storms early Friday morning. A few showers or thundershowers linger until sunrise. Winds will become quite gusty from the south as temperatures climb towards 70. The main risk for storms is Friday afternoon and evening, from noon to 9:00 p.m.  Expect a couple of waves of thunderstorms. They will be scattered, meaning not everyone sees them. However, where they hit, they will be intense and fast moving. Severe weather threats include 60 to 70 miles per hour winds, some large hail, and even the chance of quick hitting tornadoes.    St. Louis radar: See a map of current weather here Much colder air moves in behind the storms overnight and into Saturday, and we’ll see some strong non-thunderstorm winds. Donald Trump indicted; expected to surrender early next week

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:02:07 GMT

By MICHAEL R. SISAK, ERIC TUCKER and COLLEEN LONG (Associated Press)NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury, a historic reckoning after years of investigations into his personal, political and business dealings and an abrupt jolt to his bid to retake the White House. The exact nature of the charges was unclear Friday because the indictment remained under seal, but they stem from payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. Prosecutors said they were working to coordinate Trump’s surrender, which could happen early next week. They did not say whether they intended to seek prison time in the event of a conviction, a development that wouldn’t prevent Trump from seeking and assuming the presidency. The indictment, the first against a former U.S. president, injects a local district attorney’s office into the heart of a national presidential race and ushers in criminal proc...

Letters: Readers respond to gun violence at East High and in Nashville

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:02:07 GMT

Violence against children and at school spark outpouring of concern, rageRe: “3 children, 3 adults dead,” March 28 news storyAlthough normally, I’d never watch a video of a shooting, I did just now of the Nashville, Tenn., school event. I do truly praise the officers who went in and did their job so effectively. But my heart aches for the children in that building who will have to endure reliving this trauma for who knows how long, not to mention the trauma of losing three schoolmates and three adults from the school. The Colorado legislature needs to act now on an assault-style weapons ban as well as other significant gun control (background and age limitations for purchase). I so fear for my three small grandchildren who may have to undergo “active shooter” drills in their classroom. This should not be a part of their education!Catherine Englekirk, Castle RockAnd once again we lower caskets into the waiting earth. The small ones are the most conspicuou...
